I love tea! I think it’s one of the things that sort of defines me, weirdly. Anyone who knows me can confirm! It just so happens that green tea also has dozens of benefits for our bodies, inside and out. It is an “antioxidant powerhouse,” which is where most of its benefits derive from. These antioxidants have the power to neutralize free radicals from causing cell damage, not to mention several other specific roles it serves in skincare. Everyone knows that, right? Maybe you don't know the many forms green tea can have in skincare and cosmetics, or the variety of ways it impacts our skin health...
In skincare, green tea comes in many forms: powdered extract, glycerin extract (glycerite), oil from the seeds (camellia or Tsubaki oil), wax, and water distillate (hydrosol, a fragrant water from the leaves). I use all of these in different ways! I tend to favor hydrosol, glycerite extract and camellia oil for my formulas and their amazing benefits. Green tea's versatility and gentle yet powerful abilities just amaze me!
In toners, micellar waters and lotions the hydrosol contains the water-soluble compounds from green tea, and this results in a toned, refreshed appearance, and can improve the appearance of pores and dull skin.
The glycerite is anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antimicrobial. This extract is a potent ingredient used in very small amounts. I use it in our face cream and serums.
Green tea seed oil or camellia oil is extremely moisturizing and nourishing. It’s rich in essential fatty acids, vitamins and antioxidants. It is lightweight and easily absorbed, so works great in facial oils, serums and moisturizers. Camellia oil improves elasticity and promotes a radiant complexion. It’s a resilient, super stable ingredient that brings lovely effects to the formulas it graces. Luscious face cream absolutely contains camellia oil. I love it so much!
MATURE SKIN
Polyphenols in green tea protect and promote production of collagen and other skin proteins, therefore increasing firmness and decreasing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
SENSITIVE SKIN
Green tea alleviates redness, itching and discomfort associated with irritated or sensitive skin. It also can reduce the skin’s reactiveness and restore calmness.
ACNEIC SKIN/CLOGGED PORES
Green tea in toners, face masks and micellar waters can result in skin looking refreshed and toned due to its astringent polyphenols and tannins. The effects are decreased redness and soothed irritation. Disinfecting and toning can improve the appearance of pores and inhibit excessive sebum (skin’s natural oil + wax blend) production.
HAIR CARE
Green tea is soothing to the scalp, can help with dandruff conditions, and the caffeine in green tea can stimulate hair follicles, aiding in the promotion of hair growth and mitigation of hair loss. Cleansers with green tea help with greasy hair, too.
CAFFEINE
Caffeine leads to vasoconstriction, which decreases the appearance of redness from inflamed capillaries in skin, which is why caffeine improves the look of inflamed skin and dark circles under the eyes. Caffeine also improves the appearance of cellulite but must be in high percentages.

When they ask who your dream customer is - the person you hope to actually help and make life easier for - I think that it's the busy woman in her 40s-50s, who cares about natural products and what she puts in and on her body. She's not trying to look like someone she's not, she just wants to be the best version of herself.
If it were me, I would want to know more: the products, the ingredients, the process - how, why, what led to this?
This blog gives you a chance to deep-dive into an ingredient or product, or to see where my head was at when I chose to formulate a product and why I crafted it the way I did.
Grab yourself a cup of tea and enjoy!
