The Art of Less: are Complex Skincare Routines Are Getting...Old?

There was a time when skincare was like part-time job - stacking the most serums, layering the most acids, slugging a 10-step routine under some petroleum jelly. But is that practical or sustainable? We’re tired of it. Our skin is tired and our time is valuable. And honestly - all the waste (!), the planet’s tired too.

At High Tea Skincare, we believe beauty doesn’t need to be complicated to be effective. In fact, the most powerful rituals are often the simplest ones.

The Myth of “More Is Better”

Somewhere along the way, maximalist skincare got cool. Four cleansers, six serums, fifteen freaking bottles — all promising miracles if used together or in a certain, special way or...whatever! What is even happening here?! And when you look closer, many of them contain a lot of the same ingredients, like water, thickeners and preservatives. Do we really want to put preservatives on our face six, seven, eight times in a row? I have always found it insane, but I get how clever marketing can be convincing.

The result ends up being a cluttered vanity, possibly overloaded skin and a lot of unnecessary waste — in time, money, packaging and shipping.

Multitasking is the Way

Our formulations are designed to do more, beautifully. Each one is a blend of purpose and precision — not just one-dimensional, single-hero-ingredient skincare...broken into ten steps.

High Tea products calm irritation, replenish moisture, feed the microbiome, stimulate collagen and cellular activity and protect against stressors. They deliver antioxidants, adaptogens and hydration (like a boss) in just a couple elegant, intentional formulas. If we can make the actives you need play well together, then why wouldn't we??

Why apply eleventeen different layers when one or two formulas can accomplish what you actually need, and do it with integrity?

Sustainability Starts With Simplicity

Every unnecessary bottle comes with a cost: packaging, transport, manufacturing, emissions. By crafting products that combine multiple actives with real synergy, we reduce not just steps — but impact. Not to mention, fewer shipments and products that last a couple months saves us all money!

A streamlined ritual is good for you, your skin and the planet.

Rituals, Not Routines

We believe skincare should adapt to your life, not the other way around.

Your ritual can be one minute or ten. A quick morning moment before the world rushes in, or a slow, sensory pause at night with oil and warm cup of tea. The beauty is in the intention, not the number of steps.

Whether you crave simplicity or ceremony, the ritual is yours to define.

The Future of Skincare Is Smarter, Not Longer

You know what's luxurious?

  • The choice to perform a quick routine or mindful ritual.
  • Time - the option to apply product and go, versus five to ten minutes of peace to wind down your day and slowly care for your skin.
  • Formulas that work hard so you don’t have to layer endlessly.
  • Multitasker products that save time, space and sanity while letting your skin thrive.

The new luxury is efficiency: clean, potent formulas that work hard so you don’t have to layer endlessly.

At High Tea, we don’t build routines. We build rituals — the kind that nourish your skin, your spirit, and the world around you.

Hi, I'm Marika

Owner & Formulator
High Tea SKincare

When they ask who your dream customer is - the person you hope to actually help and make life easier for - I think that it's the busy woman in her 40s-50s, who cares about natural products and what she puts in and on her body. She's not trying to look like someone she's not, she just wants to be the best version of herself.

If it were me, I would want to know more: the products, the ingredients, the process - how, why, what led to this?

This blog gives you a chance to deep-dive into an ingredient or product, or to see where my head was at when I chose to formulate a product and why I crafted it the way I did.

Grab yourself a cup of tea and enjoy!
