Ever bought a skincare product that seemed perfect—maybe even cost a fortune—only for it to do nothing – or worse, made your skin worse? Been there.
While some culprits are obvious: allergies, sensitivities, brands using just enough active ingredients to look good on the label but not enough to actually work, there are other sneaky reasons your skincare might not be delivering. Let’s break it down!

• Your Skin is Having a Moment.
Hormones, medications, seasonal dryness—your skin is always changing. If a product that used to work suddenly stops, consider what else might be at play.

• You Need to Exfoliate
Dead skin = barrier between you and your fancy product. If your skin is rough, flaky, or dull, it might be blocking absorption.
- Gentle Chemical Exfoliants: Papaya & pineapple enzymes, AHAs (lactic acid, vitamin C), BHAs (salicylic acid)
- Gentle Physical Exfoliants: Bamboo powder, jojoba beads (skip the harsh sugars and ground pits for your face!)
Exfoliating smooths your skin, giving access to more surface area so your products can actually do their thing!

• You’re Using a Waterless Product – and Expecting Hydration
Face oils and body butters? Gorgeous. But they don’t hydrate—because hydration requires water.
Fix it: Apply oils to damp skin to seal in moisture, or pair them with a water-based serum.

• Hyaluronic Acid Backfire
HA holds up to 1000x its weight in water. Sounds amazing, right? But where does it get the water? If your skin or the air is too dry, HA can pull moisture from your skin, leaving it more dehydrated.
Fix it: Use HA with a water-based product, drink your water, and if the air is dry, use a humidifier or seal it in with a moisturizer. The formula matters.

• Retinol & Tretinoin—Powerful, But Tricky
These vitamin A derivatives boost cell turnover (great for acne & aging skin) but can cause peeling, redness, and sun sensitivity.
Fix it: Use at night only, start slow, and always wear SPF.
Want a gentler, natural alternative? Bakuchiol (from the babchi plant) works just like retinol in skin — without the irritation or sun sensitivity! Use it day and night without issues: double the benefits, zero downside.

When they ask who your dream customer is - the person you hope to actually help and make life easier for - I think that it's the busy woman in her 40s-50s, who cares about natural products and what she puts in and on her body. She's not trying to look like someone she's not, she just wants to be the best version of herself.
If it were me, I would want to know more: the products, the ingredients, the process - how, why, what led to this?
This blog gives you a chance to deep-dive into an ingredient or product, or to see where my head was at when I chose to formulate a product and why I crafted it the way I did.
Grab yourself a cup of tea and enjoy!
